Control Migration Tracking

Make the next migration decision with evidence.

Bring migration scope, pilot groups, readiness checks, and device-level progress into one view. See what is ready, what needs attention, and which validation criteria remain before calling the work complete.

From visibility to investigation

Give the migration a shared plan and a clear definition of done.

A security control migration involves more than replacing an agent. Teams need to agree on the device population, prepare the rollout, manage exceptions, and validate the result. GreyAware connects those decisions in a migration workspace, with planning assumptions and device-level status available for review.

  1. Define the population

Select the source and target controls, review the device scope, and identify a pilot group and critical assets before planning the broader rollout.

  2. Prepare the phases

Review recommended phase sizes, change windows, and projected timing. Check package, parameter, operating-system, and device readiness.

  3. Track the result

Follow device-level installation, removal, and validation states. Compare available results with the success criteria defined for the migration.

An investigation in practice

The target is installed. Is the pilot ready to close?

A 25-device EDR pilot reports the target agent installed on every device, but one device still lacks a healthy validation result. Compare installation progress with the agreed success criteria before moving forward.

MIGRATION / VALIDATION REVIEWIllustrative example

EDR migration pilot

Pilot population
25 devices
Target installation
25 of 25 reported installed
Healthy validation
24 of 25 validated
Required threshold
100% healthy validation

Installation and healthy validation are separate criteria. In this example, the healthy-validation threshold remains unmet; installation progress alone does not establish completion.

  1. Locate the exception

Review the device without a healthy result and the source or execution evidence behind its current state.

  2. Validate the result

Confirm reporting freshness and the target control’s condition. Coordinate any required follow-up through your approved operational process.

  3. Review completion criteria

Reassess the enabled criteria, blockers, and remaining manual work before recording completion or expanding the rollout.

Evidence for the next decision

Keep planning assumptions connected to rollout decisions.

A rollout plan changes as teams learn from the pilot and encounter exceptions. GreyAware brings the proposed schedule, readiness findings, and device results together for that review.

Explore the platform

Pilot and schedule planning

Review recommended groups and phase sizes, critical-asset handling, and change windows. Inspect warnings when the requested deadline and selected risk profile conflict.

Execution preparation

Review required package details, parameters, operating-system coverage, and management-target readiness. Use supported previews to examine preparation before an operational change.

Validation and exception tracking

Distinguish target installation, target health, and source removal where those criteria apply. Follow blockers, manual-handling states, and activity history with the migration record.

Can we use this to plan an EDR migration?

Yes. An EDR replacement is one example of the source-to-target control migration workflow. Start with the source and target products, supported integrations, operating systems, and device population. The demo can establish which planning, preparation, and validation evidence is available for your combination.

How are pilots and rollout phases planned?

GreyAware uses the selected population, risk profile, critical-asset context, and scheduling inputs to recommend a pilot and rollout phases. Operators can review and adjust the plan. Recommendations depend on the available inventory and assumptions; they do not guarantee a disruption-free rollout.

What does migration readiness include?

Preparation includes package and parameter requirements, operating-system coverage, device context, approvals or exceptions, and schedule readiness. Review the underlying findings and any missing information before interpreting a ready state. Preparation readiness and successful completion are separate assessments.

Does GreyAware deploy or remove agents automatically?

The current workflow supports planning, simulated execution, and supported dry-run previews. Live submission is not enabled in the current implementation. Actual deployment and removal should use your approved management process; confirm the supported workflow and validation sources during evaluation.

How is migration completion evaluated?

Configured criteria can include target installation, target health, source removal, pilot completion, and the absence of critical issues. GreyAware compares available device results with the enabled thresholds. Confirm the source and execution mode behind the results: simulated outcomes are not evidence of a live deployment.

Can we investigate failed or manually handled devices?

The migration record includes device-level states, blocked reasons, and available action history. Manual-handling and failed results remain part of the review. Use the relevant source evidence and your approved operational process to resolve the issue, then reassess the migration’s completion criteria.
